Dear NZ Water Purifier Customers,
I am writing to inform you of a recent unforeseen incident which occurred on Wednesday the 15th of July. Four Medsafe officers and six police officers arrived unannounced to our private residence and business locale. Power was given to them to break down our doors [under the Search and Surveillance Act of 2012], but thankfully we were present on the property and co-operative, so no such force was required.
Unfortunately three police and one Medsafe officer came into our family home when the only occupant was our 16 year old daughter, and they proceeded with reading her her rights. She was handed a search warrant and officially detained with no right to leave the property for a period of over 5 hours. She was initially told she could only phone a guardian or lawyer, but the guardian could not be either my wife or I. Meanwhile, my wife and I were also initially detained on the other side of our property by a different group of officers, where we observed my business being plundered.
Our daughter was soon after joined by my wife, but neither were allowed to move freely about our residence or allowed to touch any device such as a phone or laptop computer. My daughter was later given permission at my request to join me, but her pet dog Reina who would always accompany her when coming into our shop was not permitted to enter with her.
Medsafe has claimed this week that the products sold through the NZ Water Purifier website are medicines, and they were therefore seizing and removing all of the products [including a substantial quantity of unlabelled empty bottles]. This seizure took from about 9.40 am to 4.30 pm. Extraordinarily, Medsafe had also visited me in 2009 with concerns which I addressed at that time; Medsafe had subsequently been silent for the 11 years since, observing the sale of water purifier; and have now acted in opposition to their 11 year acquiescence.
Unfortunately they also seized my business computer and order records, which means they may now have access to your private information such as your name, address, email, phone number; as well as your order details.
In my business I take all practical steps to keep your information private, so this breech of keeping your personal information secure has caused me great concern.
I am deeply sorry that your private information may now be compromised; but this matter was outside of my control.
It is your personal choice if you decide to get legal advice on any potential breaches of the privacy Act and/or the Bill of Rights.
Could the above actions be a taste of what all New Zealanders could soon face under Jacinda's new bills which have recently been rushed through parliament?
As Medsafe have now seized and removed all of my water purifier products, I am no longer able to supply your water treatment product needs until further notice.
Medsafe are conducting further investigations, and have not given a specified time of how long this investigation may take.
I thank you for your support over the years, and hope this unjust attack on my water purifier business may soon be resolved. The website is no longer displaying any products for sale, and I will certainly let you know when and if business returns back to normal.
We would welcome any prayers of support through this time.
Peace and blessings,
Director of NZ Water Purifier Ltd
